Congratulations! You just landed a new job in a new, big city. How exciting! There are so many emotions running through your mind and considering how exciting this new adventure will be, it makes sense your mind is running in a million different directions: Where will I live? Do I know anyone there? I hope my new coworkers like me. How am I going to get everything I own there?

New City, Big Move

That last question is one we can help answer. With experience relocating people all over the world, and specifically helping people relocating for new jobs, we understand all of the variables (and emotions) that go into this process. Here are some helpful tips to help you manage the process and ensure your move goes smoothly:

  • Ask your company if they offer any Relocation package/allowance - you’d be surprised at how many companies offer this. Typically, it’s anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000, depending on your role at the company. Although this seems like a lot of money, this incorporates all aspects of your relocation (plane tickets, moving costs, hotel costs while you wait for your items to arrive, etc.). It can add up quickly, so working with a Move Consultant can help you efficiently manage this allowance.

  • Set (and maintain) a timeline - this part can be a little tricky because this timeline has to be agreed upon by your new company, your own personal schedule, and whichever moving company you partner with. As long as everyone is on the same page and understands the parameters around the timeline you create, it will offer a lot more clarity for yourself and everyone else involved.

  • Figuring out what you’re taking is important and extends beyond furniture. Do you have a car you’ll be relocating? What about what won’t go? Can you leave it with your old home, or do you need to coordinate disposal/donation? Getting this situated early and communicating it to your Move Consultant will help establish budgets and gain clarity.

  • Partnering with a moving company that fits your needs - there are a lot of moving companies out there. Figuring out which one is best suited for your needs can be a daunting task. That’s where we come in. The Move Consultants can help you understand your various options and distinguish which ones are best suited for you based on your budget, inventory, and timeline.

As I mentioned, a million different emotions and thoughts are running through your mind when you’re relocating to a new city for a new job. We are here to help take one less thing off your plate with your move. You can rely on us to do the heavy lifting before and during your move, too!
